PARASITE (2014)
hand-engraved paper
variable dimensions
Of our many notions and assumption that shape nature, parasite tackles and questions the dichotomy of useful vs harmful plants. The series reflects on the human effort to separate the „good” and „bad” parts of a parasitic relationship by reducing the optical difference between the host and the parasite – mistetoe, ivy and traveller’s joy – to the minimum.
It is often an accidental (and violent) act to select, to demarcate a single entity from the connected, rizomatic net of (vegetal) existence. Gosztola deals with the issue both by excisting species from the plant comminity and by questioning the the space of the image.
